Weekend Fun for NJ Kids March 28-29: Easter Express, Egg Hunts & Astro Day

Even if the temperature is still a tad chilly, spring is most definitely in the air! Easter events are popping up all over, so hop aboard the Easter Express at Allaire State Park, fill up your baskets during an egg hunt at Oasis Family Farm and meet the Easter Bunny during a free event at historic Maywood Station. You can also celebrate the annual Holi Hai Indian Festival of Colors on the Jersey City waterfront, enjoy fantasy-themed activities at the Children’s Book Fair at the Monmouth County Library and learn all about space at Astro Day at the Morris Museum. Easter Express (Wall Township, NJ)
Calling all train lovers! Kids are invited to take a ride on the Pine Creek Railroad with the Easter Bunny on this special Easter Express ride. Trains leave every half hour from the station at Allaire State Park.

Easter Egg Hunt (Robinsville, NJ)
Everyone is invited to Oasis Family Farm for an Easter Egg Hunt. Bring your favorite basket, win prizes and take pictures with the Easter Bunny. Kids can keep busy all afternoon at the farm with gem mining, a fossil adventure and a special fun zone.  

Saturday, March 28th

Children’s Book Fair (Manalapan, NJ)
Combine "reading," "fair" and "free," and you've got yourself a fun family event at the Monmouth County Library. Experience dragon's breath, ice bubbles and a horn of fire during the Dragons & Dreams show, meet a live penguin from Jenkinson's Aquarium and defeat an ice dragon with the "balls of fire" bean bag toss.

Meet the Easter Bunny (Maywood, NJ)
Kids are invited to meet the Easter Bunny at this FREE event at the Maywood Station Museum. Bring along your camera and take photos with the Big Bunny before taking a walk through the historic railroad cars.

Popovich Pet Theater (Englewood, NJ)
This wonderful family show at the Bergen Performing Arts Center features an amazing cast of cats, dogs, parrots, geese and even mice. We just can't resist a show featuring a bunch of rescued animal performers!

Astro Day (Morris, NJ)
Join the Astronomical Society at Morris Museum for a day of otherworldly fun! Families will enjoy special science activities throughout the day including kid-friendly spaced-themed crafts, 3-D viewings of Mars, telescope lessons and more.

Holi Hai: The Indian Festival of Colors (Jersey City, NJ)
NOTE: This event has been moved to SUNDAY, MARCH 29, due to weather conditions. Celebrate Holi, India's Festival of Colors, on the Jersey City waterfront with friends and family. The event is designed to be kid-friendly with lots of activities planned for the entire family including live music, color playing and delicious food.

Nature Camouflage Egg Hunt (Pennington, NJ)
Wander through the fields and forests of the Watershed Reserve with their expert Teacher-Naturalists to see how many naturally dyed eggs your family can discover. Don’t forget to bring an Easter basket for your goodies!

New Jersey Ballet’s Cinderella (Morristown, NJ)
One of New Jersey Ballet’s most popular productions for children, Cinderella is a two-act romp through the well-known fairy tale in which a girl loses a dancing slipper and finds happily ever after with a prince.

Sensory Friendly Theater: The Berenstain Bears (Rahway, NJ)
Sensory Friendly Theater (SFT) is a series of live performances specially created for children with autism and similar sensory sensitivity, with lights up in the auditorium and sound volume lowered. The March 29th performance will be The Berenstain Bears: Family Matters.

Spring Peepers & Wood Frogs (Howell, NJ)
Spring has sprung at Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center! Check out their FREE program this Sunday, all about those amphibians that go “croak.” Then spend some time hiking around the beautiful wilderness area.
