Now is the time to get outdoors and play! The trees are green again, the flowers are in bloom and best of all, temps are mild but not too hot (yet!). Get some fresh air with the gang on a Spring Wildflower Walk or a Family Woodland Hike at NJ Botanical Gardens or make it an all day affair at Historic Smithville’s Mayfest. You can also take in a Classic Car Show in downtown Chester or check out some historic baseball during Pitching the Past at the Village of Alliare, or find a full list of weekend activities on our Event Calendar.

Mayfest (Absecon, NJ)
Boasting more than 100 crafters, Mayfest promises warm-weather fun in Historic Smithville and Village Greene. Don’t miss an international food court, music, activities for the kids and more. While you’re there, also be sure and check out the 60 shops, carousel, paddleboats, restaurants and more that are located in Smithville.

The Honey & The Hive (Morristown, NJ)
Morris Museum is welcoming spring and summer in a big way with The Honey & The Hive exhibit. Celebrate the sweet story of these incredible insects and learn how vital they are to our survival and how you can help to protect bees and their habitats. You’ll also learn about the life cycle of a bee and how different cultures revere this tiny architect.

Saturday, May 17th

Nature Story Time (Tenafly, NJ)
Families with children ages 3-7 will enjoy a nature-themed story and a visit from one of Tenafly Nature Center’s education animals. Learn about the characteristics of the animal as well as their story and how they became part of the Nature Center. Animals may include snakes, frogs, turtles, owls or even a hawk!

Farm to Table: A Food Revolution Day (Morristown, NJ)
Fosterfields Historical Living Farm always has something educational going on and this weekend is no exception! Explore the process from food production to consumption, and the benefits and value of sustainable agriculture, nutrition and eating locally. Enjoy fun food demos, a wood burning stove demonstration, interactive fitness activities and kid-friendly games.

Spring Wildflower Walk (Ringwood, NJ)
Head to the beautiful New Jersey Botanical Gardens this Saturday for a family-friendly spring wildflower walk. Stroll through the meadows and gardens with a Naturalist as you check out early season bloomers. Stick around after the program to keep exploring the grounds or spread out a blanket and enjoy a picnic lunch.  

Pitching the Past: Historic Baseball Reenactment (Farmingdale, NJ)
Join in a day of family fun at this new event at the Village of Allaire. Watch as historic NJ baseball teams (including the Hoboken 9) take part in two 19th century-style games. Post game festivities include militia recruitment, games and historic baseball demonstrations and exhibits.

Sunday, May 18th

Classic Car & Antique Truck Show (Chester, NJ)
The quaint town of Chester will be bursting with three classic car show exhibits this Sunday. Check out classic cars, antique trucks and even tractors. Wrap up the afternoon with a stroll along Chester's charming, brick-lined sidewalks with over 80 specialty shops featuring antiques, clothing, home furnishings, confections and more.

New Jersey Ballet: Cinderella (Morristown, NJ)
The classic fairytale of Cinderella comes to life at the Mayo Performing Arts Center with lavish sets and costumes. Performed with New Jersey Ballet’s original “storyteller” narration, even the youngest audience members will be able to follow the story and stay engaged. A perfect first ballet experience!

Family Woodland Hike (Ringwood, NJ)
NJ Botanical Gardens is brimming with kid-friendly activities this spring! Gather up the troops on Sunday for an easygoing hike in the Garden's woodlands where you'll learn a bit about the plants, animals and geology around you in a hike designed to fit the group. Smaller children may need to be carried but all are welcome.
