Weekend Fun for NJ Kids: Spring Festivals, Cinco de Mayo, Kite Day, May 2-3

Say hello to the lovely month of May! Festivals abound in New Jersey at this time of year, like the Hackettstown Annual Spring Festival, the Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival and Bridgeton's Cinco de Mayo Cultural Fest, all happening this weekend. For more seasonal fun, go fly a kite at Terhune Orchard’s Kite Day, cheer on your favorite football team during the Jets Draft Family Day, or head to the Bergen County Zoo to watch sheep shearing and visit with barnyard animals. Kite Day (Princeton, NJ)
Bring a kite to this beautiful festival at Terhune Orchards (a Mommy Poppins favorite!) and test it out in the wide open farm pastures. Then enjoy all the farm has to offer from pony rides to barnyard games to delicious country food.

Hackettstown Annual Spring Festival (Hackettstown, NJ)
This annual spring event has that old-time festival flare, including carnival rides, food vendors, games and giveaways. Also be sure and check out the pop up Mars Chocolate North America M&M store, live music performances and a ‘Teddy Bear Hospital’ where kids can bring ripped stuffed animals to be fixed!

Mobile Butterfly Experience (Paramus, NJ)
NYC Butterfly presents a traveling butterfly exhibit at Paramus Park Mall. The butterfly house will contain approximately 200 Monarchs and kids will be given nectar sticks to feed and interact with the butterflies.

Jets Draft Family Fun Day (Florham Park, NJ)
The Jets welcome all fans to the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center for Jets Draft Family Fun Day! Fans can watch the remainder of the 2015 NFL Draft, meet Jets Flight Crew Cheerleaders and have the chance to get player autographs and even tour the locker room. Children can enjoy free face painting and Kids Zone, an outdoor activity area.

Dinosaur Day (Newark, NJ)
Newark Museum invites all families to enjoy Dinosaur Day this weekend. Hands-on activities include shark tooth fossil dig, geo treasure hunt, hurricane simulator and dinosaur origami. You can also get up close with a roaring T-Rex from Field Station Dinosaurs and meet Diego from Nick Jr.

Sheep Shearing (Paramus, NJ)
Visit the Bergen County Zoo to enjoy sheep shearing demonstrations throughout the day. This special event will include children's crafts, story time, spinning demonstrations and more.

Arbor Day “Ar-B-Que” (Short Hills, NJ)
Families are invited to Cora Hartshorn Arboretum for their annual Arbor Day celebration. Nosh on great food, listen to music and take part in family-friendly activities such as a Birds of Prey presentation, kids craft tables, scavenger hunts and guided hikes.

Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival (Hoboken, NJ)
This family-friendly festival features over 300 artists, crafters, photographers, food vendors, local restaurants and businesses. A special children’s section on 3rd Street includes rides, games, face painting, activities, balloons and more.

Backyard Tea Party (Holmdel, NJ)
Dress kids in their springtime best for an afternoon tea party at Holmdel Park. They'll decorate their own ceramic tea cup and saucer using nature as inspiration before working up an appetite with backyard games and activities. Enjoy iced tea, juice, cookies and fruit to cap off the party.

Westfield Spring Fling (Westfield, NJ)
Celebrate spring in the quaint town of Westfield at their annual festival. The event features an arts and crafts show, rides from KidZone, games and activities for all ages, the Bovella's Pie-Eating Contest and a delicious food festival.

Cinco de Mayo Cultural Fest (Bridgeton, NJ)
Head to downtown Bridgeton for some Cinco de Mayo fun and culture! The festival will feature food, beverages and arts & crafts. Entertainment includes dancing horses, live Mariachi band and family games.
