Weekday Event Picks for NJ Kids: Italian Festival, Birding Cruise, August 31-September 4

The countdown to school is on! While fall may be on the brain, there are technically a few more weeks until autumn.  Stay in the summer spirit a little longer at Point Pleasant’s final Kiddie Beach Show and the kickoff of the Labor Day Italian Festival in Scotch Plains. Drop-In and Play (East Hanover)
It’s play time at The Messy Artist! Let the little ones explore unique stations, including the sensory box, project station, play dough, messy station and easel station. Program is for 1-5 year olds, and no registration is required.

Kiddie Beach Show (Point Pleasant Beach)
Don’t miss the very last beach performance of the summer at Jenkinson’s. FREE

Kick Dance Studios Open House (Fair Haven)
Bring your dancers to Kick Dance Studios for a complimentary trial class, such as Princess Ballet, Jazz/Acro Combo, Acting or Musical Theater. FREE

Northern NJ:
Growing in the Garden (Morristown)
Take a walk in the garden with your 3-5 year old at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum. The program includes story time and an art project. Two afternoon sessions are available, and pre-registration is required.

Music Together Demo Class (Whitehouse Station)
Songs, instruments and movement are all part of the fun at this music class for little ones up to age 5. My kids still remember their Music Together class from years ago. Give it a try for free at the Rockaway Reformed Church. Pre-registration is required. FREE

Jersey Shore:
Kids Art Hour (Lincroft)
Using recycled materials, kids are invited to create various projects at Monmouth Museum’s Green Art Studio. The workshop is led by a teaching artist and is free with museum admission.

Head Over to Express Yourself Studios for creative fun with your 2-5 year olds. Participants will experiment with clay, glue, paint and all kinds of art materials. Pre-registration is required.

Cape May Birding Cruise (Cape May)
Set sail on Cape May Harbor for a close-up look at birds of the coastal salt marsh. Guides and naturalists will lead the exploration via kayak. This is fun opportunity for kids to learn about birds and photography.

Labor Day Italian Feast (Scotch Plains)
My family looks forward to this fun-filled festival every year. Enjoy rides, game, delicious food, live entertainment and nightly 50/50 drawings. Fair runs through Monday. Admission is FREE.

Jersey Shore:
Seussical the Musical (Manasquan)
Catch the Cat in the Hat, Horton and all their Dr. Seuss friends on a musical quest to discover the world’s tiniest planet in the universe. Performances are held at Algonquin Arts Theatre.
