As August temperatures begin to soar, take an air-conditioned breather at cool indoor events this week, including State Theatre’s free showing of Night at the Museum-Secret of the Tomb, Kean University’s Rumplestiltskin and New Jersey State Museum’s Maker Space Program. Central NJ:
Middlesex County Fair (East Brunswick)
Start the week off with an evening of games, rides, food and agricultural heritage at this annual summer tradition. Top off the night with fireworks. The fair runs through Sunday.

Southern NJ:
Glow-in-the-Dark Masquerade Party (Cherry Hill)
It’s lights-out at the Cherry Hill Public Library when kids 10+ are invited to play glow-in-the-dark games, create neon masks and enjoy refreshments. FREE

A carnival by the beach sounds like a perfect way to spend a summer evening.The five night event includes games, food, raffles and rides. Unlimited ride bracelets are available.

Big Top Dance Show (Hillsborough)
Dancing and circus acts come together for one amazingly fun show at The Dance Connection’s circus tent. Watch clown-costumed dancers from Somerset and surrounding counties perform ballet, hip-hop and tumbling. There are two performances on Friday, and tickets are only a buck!

Northern NJ:
Campout on the Beach (Morristown)
Spend quality time with the family on an overnight camping adventure at Sunrise Lake Beach. Bring or rent a tent, and have a blast sliding down the beach’s Zoom Flume, making smores and enjoying all kinds of lake activities. Pre-registration is required.
