Travel To NYC's Holiday Fun on NY Waterway

12/18/13 - By Shari Simpson

I've spoken of my affection for NY Waterway before; my usual mode of travel when hauling myself and two kids to NYC involves a jumpy bus ride or a claustrophobic journey on the PATH, but my few experiences on the NY Waterway ferry have been downright--dare I say it?--pleasurable, and fun, even. So we are happy to tell you that NY Waterway is making the holidays even more festive (and affordable) by letting all children travel free from the Port Imperial terminal in Weehawken to the Midtown/39th Street terminal! Read on to find out the details of this special "Kids Ride Free" deal and all the other reasons why NY Waterway ferry is a great choice for your holiday travel to Manhattan.

I have nice memories of my summer travel on NY Waterway: meeting my friend in the beautiful Port Imperial terminal (which is so airy and lovely, I actually scheduled a lunch date at Robongi in the terminal not long afterward), then a fun--and all too brief--8 minute ride to the Midtown/39th Street terminal to catch the free NY Waterway shuttle bus. The scheduling of the ferries is prompt, as opposed to the "whenever" PATH or crazy traffic in the tunnel and the whole ride is so civilized, it doesn't even compare. And a big plus for winter travelers--the ferry never shuts down, even in inclement weather (and doesn't have to wait for snow plows!)

The holiday special Kids Ride Free for kids 12 and under runs until January 5; it's for travel between Port Imperial Terminal in Weehawken and the Midtown/39th street terminal, valid Monday through Friday any time after 10pm and all day Saturday and Sunday. Take the kiddos to see holiday lights, family-friendly venues and lots of free fun stuff. "Free" is such a lovely word, isn't it? Happy Holidays from Mommy Poppins NJ and NY Waterway!
