NJ Celebrates Moms on Mother's Day, from Alvin Ailey to Crafting to Wine Tasting

Congratulations, Mom! You’ve survived another year – 365 days filled with gymnastics, soccer, parent/teacher nights, stomach bugs and endless birthday celebrations. You now have a full 24 hours dedicated to you. Sunday, May 11th marks a celebration honoring mothers, motherhood and all things maternal. New Jersey offers several unique ways of celebrating. From crafting to wine tasting to dance, today is your day.

Crafting
Imagine That! A charming children's museum is hosting a Mother's Day breakfast and craft for the whole family. Enjoy a light breakfast, followed by a Mother's Day card project that will delight the kids. Families are welcome to spend the rest of the day exploring the museum. This event will be held on Sunday, May 4 at 10:00am. $12.99/adults with advance ticket purchase, $14.99/child with advance ticket purchase. Price includes admission. Celebrate local vendors and artists at the 9th Annual Mother’s Day Craft & Vendor Show. Held in Ringwood, doors open at 10:00am and remain open until 3:00pm. Free admission and parking.

Wine Tasting
Alba Vineyard in Milford will be hosting a Mother's Day Festival for the entire family. Activities include a cellar tour, live music by the The VooDUDES, kid-friendly game, and wine tastings for the adults ($10). Pack a picnic, or enjoy the gourmet food on site. This event will be held on Sunday, May 11 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm. Admission runs $10/adults, $5 for ages 12 to 20; and FREE for children under 12. For more information, call (908) 995-7800.

Valenzano Winery in Shamong will be hosting an outdoor gathering at the Courtyard & Vintner’s Pavilion.  Offering a lunch buffet ($15.00 per person), this winery will also present a live performance by Calmer Than You.  A variety of crafters and other vendors will be also be onsite. Activities will be held on Sunday, May 11 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm.

Music
Older kids can help celebrate mom with a performance by The Whispers & Jeffery Osborne. Newark Symphony Hall will host a Mother’s Day concert on Friday, May 9 at 8pm. Tickets are $45.00 per person.

The 6th Annual Mother’s Day Music Festival will take place on Saturday, May 10 on Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. The festival features celebrated soul and Rhythm & Blues artists Charlie Wilson, Gladys Knight, and Heads of State. Tickets start at $45.00 per person. Performances begin at 7:00pm.

Garden Picnic
Willowwood Arboretum, Morris County Park Commission's "Hidden Treasure," invites families to stroll the beautiful gardens, tour the Tubbs House and enjoy light refreshments. Bring a blanket or low lawn chair and listen to music by the A.L.L. Trio from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on the lawn. This event will be held on Sunday, May 11 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm and is free to the public. Cap off your Mother’s Day brunch with a stroll at Bamboo Brook Outdoor Education Center in Far Hills. On Sunday, May 11, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm, Bamboo Brook will host guided tours, informational talks, craft activities and light refreshments. Please call (973) 326-7601 for more information.

Mother’s Day 5K
Before you head out for brunch, celebrate this special occasion at the 13th Annual Mother’s Day 5k in Berkeley Heights. This popular community event, held on Sunday, May 11, kicks off at 9:00 am. All proceeds from this year’s race will benefit LIVESTRONG at the Summit YMCA, the Y’s innovative, cancer surviving and recovery program. $20 per person. 

Dance
If you really want to go all out for Mother's Day, encourage the ones you love to treat you to a day at NJPAC, taking in the amazing Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. This world-famous modern dance company is very accessible for children. The program will feature four different dances, including Revelations, Mr. Ailey's most famous piece.
