All Weekend

Just Peachy Festival (Princeton, NJ)
Celebrate the Garden State and the delicious summer peach by joining Terhune Orchards for their 2nd annual Just Peachy Festival. In addition to a special Summer Harvest “Farm to Fork” tasting presented by local chefs, they’ll be dozens of kid-friendly activities such as tractor-drawn wagon rides, barnyard fun, a peach pie contest and live music.

Marvel Universe Live (East Rutherford, NJ)
Yes, it’s a big ticket event, but if you’ve got little (or grown up!) superhero fans in the house, this is one awesome show. Watch your favorite Marvel characters including Spider-Man, The Avengers - Iron Man and The Hulk come to life in an action-packed performance with motorcycles, aerial stunts and pyrotechnics.

Oklahoma (Morristown, NJ)
August is a great time to take advantage of the talented summer stock theater performances at Morris Museum. One of the first modern musicals, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma is a classic tale the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys intertwined with a love story between a handsome cowboy and a local farm girl.

Saturday, August 2nd

Warren County Fair & Hot Air Balloon Festival (Phillipsburg, NJ)
The whole family will feel like a kid again at the Warren County Farmers’ Fair and Hot Air Balloon Festival. This charming old-time country fair features livestock and small animal shows, agricultural exhibits, antique and stock tractor pulls, demolition derbies, crafters, carnival rides, a Kid's Rodeo Roundup (new this year) and of course, plenty of food.

Explore the Farm Wagon Ride (Morristown, NJ)
For a low key summer outing, take a day trip to the much-loved Fosterfields Living Historical Farm – and teach the kiddos a thing or two about old-fashioned ways of farm life. Your house-drawn wagon ride will take a scenic tour around the beautiful farm as you explore the methods, equipment, crops and enterprises of Fosterfields in the early 1900s.

Carpenter’s Loop Hike (Englewood Cliffs, NJ)
Spend a fit and refreshing Saturday morning at Englewood Cliffs Park on a guided hike with their experienced trail crew. Best for active families with kids 10 & up, the 4 mile trail will lead your group past amazing views and all kinds of nature as you navigate rugged terrain and slopes.

Sunday, August 3rd

Palisades Meet-Up Clean-Up (Fort Lee, NJ)
Got a little free time this Sunday? Help the Appalachian Mountain Club clean up the rugged cliffs and shores of NJ’s pretty Palisades nature area. Meet at the Ross Dock Picnic Area, grab a trash bag and gloves and get to work collecting garbage to keep our state’s parks beautiful!

Pond Study (Jersey City, NJ)
Another great program at Liberty State Park’s Interpretive Nature Center, Pond Study teaches children all about freshwater pond life. Roll up your sleeves and take an up close look at some of the aquatic inhabitants. Stick around after class and stroll down the park’s boardwalk or visit the huge playground (with perfect views of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty!).

Skylands Manor Tours (Ringwood, NJ)
Skylands Manor, a Tudor Revival mansion on the grounds of NJ State Botanical Gardens, was constructed in the early 20th century by renowned architect John Russell Pope. Take a guided tour of the mansion and grounds and check out the antique stained glass windows, 16th century German and Swiss fixtures and the home’s unique spiral staircase.
