Hello there April, so nice to see you! After a cold (and snowy, and windy) winter, it’s finally time to start shedding those coats to enjoy spring! Sign up for a Read & Explore program about birds at Terhune Orchards, check out the rides and kids activities at Maywood’s Springtime Family Funfest or take a guided nature walk at Tenafly Nature Center. Jersey’s got some great shows going on too, like Disney Junior Live! Pirate & Princess Adventure at the IZOD Center, Stuart Little at the Kelsey Theater and the awesome (and free!) WBGO Kids Jazz Concert Series at the Montclair Art Museum. And remember, you can find a full list of weekend activities in our Event Calendar.

Pirate & Princess Adventure. The live show at the IZOD center features characters from Disney Junior's hit series, Sofia the First and Jake and the Never Land Pirates and a Doc McStuffins pre-show to boot.

Saturday, April 5th

Read & Explore: Birds, Nesting and Birdhouses (Princeton, NJ)

The wonderful Terhune Orchards continues their Read & Explore series through the early spring with a great program for the kiddos on seasonal birds. Children ages 3 to 8 will listen to a story about birds and how they get nests ready for their babies when the weather begins to warm up. Everyone will make their very own birdhouse to take home.

WBGO Kids Jazz Concert (Montclair, NJ)

Discover one of America’s most loved musical art forms at the FREE WBGO Kids Jazz Concert series! Guest artists will perform and hold a discussion about jazz and rhythms. This interactive, hour-long concert gives kids the opportunity to learn about the distinct qualities of jazz and why it’s a reflection of our community, nation and world.

Brunch with the Bunny (Cherry Hill, NJ)

As soon as April arrives, it’s time to don your Easter best and meet the big bunny with the kiddos! Head to the Garden State Discovery Museum for Brunch (and pictures!) with the Bunny this Saturday afternoon and keep the kids busy with spring crafts, face painting, baby animals and of course, an egg hunt.

Stuart Little (West Windsor, NJ)

From the talented E. B. White, author of Charlotte's Web, comes this merry musical about a noble mouse that jumps headlong into adventures big enough to match any imagination. Stuart Little is funny, tender and exciting, with colorful child-size puppets bringing the story to life.

Sunday, April 6th

Maywood Springtime Family Funfest (Maywood, NJ)

This old-fashioned spring festival and street fair in Maywood is no small affair. It features kiddie rides, a climbing wall, live music, face painting, a petting zoo and more. Yummy eats include classic street fair food, like sausage and peppers and Zeppole (those delicious fried Italian doughnuts!)

Guided Nature Walk (Tenafly, NJ)

Now that we’ve finally thawed out, it’s the perfect time to enjoy a laid back nature walk with the whole family. An Environmental Educatior from Tenafly Nature Center will lead your group through the beautiful trails, answering questions about early springtime flora and fauna.

Hiking Adventures – A Toddler’s Perspective (Holmdel, NJ)

Enjoy some fresh spring air with your toddler as you wander the quiet, peaceful trails of Holmdel Park. Not to worry - these short hikes are intended for little legs and short attention spans! Each hike will have fun activities included, as well as a great park keepsake for tots to take home.
