TGA Premier Junior Golf, Weston, CT: While this junior golf association is based in Weston, they run youth golf programs throughout Fairfield County.  The YMCA in New Canaan, the Davenport School in Stamford, the Tokeneke School in Darien, and the Mill Hill School of Fairfield all offer this instructional golf program.  No smelly shin guards necessary.

Carver Center, Norwalk: Norwalk’s Carver Center offers an array of after school experiences to Norwalk based kids, ranging from academic assistance and tutoring to self esteem workshops and physical activities. There is a waiting list for many activities, so best to call and get in as soon as possible.

Aldrich Museum, Ridgefield, CT: If you have an older child (teenager) who’s interested in the world of fine art, consider some of the programs offered by Ridgefield’s Aldrich Museum.  In addition to their annual portfolio review day, where students can come and have their portfolios evaluated by representatives from many top notch art school, the museum offers internships to kids who are interested in the museum and curating world.

Audubon Society, Greenwich, CT: The CT Audubon Society supports several research projects in which people of all ages can participate.  Feederwatch is a national program where volunteers join and track birds in their yards, send their data in, and help scientists study trends in North American bird populations.  Participants pay $15, and must provide their own bird feeder and birdseed.

Coastal Cleanup, Fairfield County, CT: Together with our middle schooler, my husband and I will be organizing a Coastal Cleanup outing this year.  Once the soccer season has ended, said 5th grader will be spending part of her afternoons planning and organizing the event.  Check out the Save the Sound website for details on planning a project of your own…203.787.0646

Girl Scouts of CT:  The Girl Scouts program is vibrant here in CT.  Troops are organized by grade level, and the program is intended for kindergarteners and up.  In addition to emphasizing important life skills, being part of a Girl Scout troop can also be a very important social outlet for many girls. 860.522.0163
