Lunar New Year Celebrations in Fairfield County

February is a busy month with President's Day, Valentine's Day, and Black History Month, but one sometimes overlooked holiday is the Lunar New Year. There are, of course, world famous events in NYC including the Chinatown Parade and Festival on February 14th (a great excuse to trek into the city), but there are many celebrations all over Connecticut continuing throughout the month as we welcome the Year of the Monkey!

Chinese New Year Celebration at Rowayton Library—Norwalk
There will be a brief presentation on the many wonderful traditions of Chinese New Year and a storytime, and then attendees will decorate a fish, create a lantern, and sample delicious dumplings. Free, but advanced registration is required.

Chinese New Year Dinner Dance—Stamford
The Fairfield County Chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans will hold their annual dinner dance on February 6th. Tickets are required in advance.

Chinese Language School of Connecticut's New Year Celebration—Greenwich
Welcome the Year of the Monkey with this family friendly celebration at Eastern Middle School in Greenwich on February 6th. There will be food, music, dancing, crafts, and more.

Around the World: Creative Kids—Norwalk
At Stepping Stones Museum on February 6th, kids will learn to make and use a Chinese Yo-Yo.

Join the children's librarians for a special Chinese New Year-themed craft on February 8th.

Year of the Monkey at Bridgeport Library—Bridgeport
On February 8th, the staff at the Newfield Branch of the Bridgeport Library invites kids to participate in make and take crafts including a monkey and a Chinese drum. Kids can also try their hands at chop sticks.

Asian New Year Celebration at Beardsley Zoo—Bridgeport
Celebrate the Year of the Monkey at Beardsley Zoo with a special children's parade on February 13th. There will also be stories, crafts, and other activities.

This annual celebration on February 21st will include a variety of games and activities for kids, as well as dinner and a host of stage performances.

Celebrate Lunar New Year with Acrobat Li Liu—Danbury
Danbury Library is hosting a lunar new year celebration on February 28th that will include a performance by acrobat Li Liu, as well as a paper lantern crafting activity before or after the show. Free, but registration is required.
