4/17/16 - By Rachel Sokol

Please pass the matzo ball soup, and grab me some babka too! This year, Passover begins at sundown (Shabbos) on Friday, April 22nd and concludes at sundown on Saturday, April 30th. While the kids are dreaming about finding this year's afikomen and getting ready to watch A Rugrats Passover you'll probably be out shopping for this year's sedar. Below is a list of some New Jersey-based bakeries that carry Kosher sweets for the holiday; some bakeries are specifically Kosher for Passover and some are not Kosher bakeries per se, but offer Passover menus. Once the holiday is over and it's back to the grind, check out some amazing activities you can enjoy with the whole family as "April showers" comes to an end and we ease into "May's flowers."

Salomon Kosher Bakery (Manalapan)
This is a small Kosher bakery with a variety of sweets to satisfy any craving. It serves American as well as traditional Jewish specialties. They also deliver, sell balloons, and offer more than just pastries—they make sugar-free cakes, wedding cakes, and more!

Mazur's Sugarflake Bakery (Lyndhurst, Westwood, Fair Law, Wyckoff
This is a family-owned kosher bakery that offers over 1,000 products. They can make almost anything gluten-free, including the breads (really), and for Passover customers like the gluten-free brownies, chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies, cheesecakes and strawberry shortcakes. Lyndhurst location recently re-opened under new management; place special Passover orders in advance, please.

Squirrel & the Bee (Short Hills)
Don't look at their Instagram page, it will immediately make your mouth water. (You've been warned...) This bakery is grain-free and uses no yeast whatsoever, so everything they sell is kosher for Passover. They ship worldwide and all parents need to know is this: their ice cream is dairy-free. 'Nuff said. The Passover menu also includes Walnut-Olive Oil Cake with Orange Zest and Candied Walnuts, Chocolate Hazelnut Cake, Apple Pie and more.

Butterflake (Teaneck)
A neighborhood staple, Butterflake, which is under rabbinical supervision (R.C.B.C. Supervision), is an award-winning bakery with a variety of Kosher for Passover goodies for everyone in the family. Their online Passover order form, in which they can ship goodies to you includes rainbow cookies, flourless chocolate torte, Raspberry Jelly Rolls, and much more. They're nut-free and have added some new items to the Passover menu: Ringy Dingys cake, Mini Hot Dog Rolls (frozen till ready to use), and Apricot Crumb Ring Cakes.

Montclair Bread (Montclair)
A community-run bakery that uses locally-sourced and all-natural ingredients, this season they're offering a flour-less doughnut for Passover: a chocolate almond cake with dark chocolate ganache. It's available daily at as well as via special order for the month of April.

Viking Bakery (Denville)
A Kosher-certified establishment that's been in business for more than 50 years, Viking's Passover menu includes sponge loafs, apricot macaroons, Mandel bread, Honey cake with fruits or with nuts, Signature babkas--cheese, cinnamon, chocolate, as well as cupcakes, strawberry shortcakes, and more. Note: Kosher bakery, but not specifically Kosher for Passover.

Grateful Bites (Flemington)
They have two signature items here that are completely flourless: The Mocha Decadence comes both as a cake, and as a rectangular bar. Covered in ganache, it's dense and fudgy. Grateful Bites' Yo, which features a flourless chocolate cake, is rolled with house-made marshmallow and covered in chocolate.  Both of these items are extremely popular with our customers, and frequently sell out. Not a Kosher bakery.

Zadie's Bake Shop (Fair Lawn)
A full-service Kosher bake shop, what kids seem to love here are the mini cupcakes, which are soft, moist, and some are covered in sprinkles. The mini-cupcakes are usually pre-ordered, so get on that fast. Also popular are the black and white cookies in a variety of fun colors, another fun sweet treat for kids. Nut free.

Gina's Bakery (Montclair)
At Gina's Bakery, everything they make is with love, as they say, and for Passover, and all of their yummy desserts are made Kosher-style without the use of flour, except Matzo products approved for Passover use. Menu includes Lemon Almond Torte, Walnut Brownies, Cheesecake, and more.

Cake Stand Bakery (Voorhees)
Known for their custom-made and super cute cookies and cakes, this year's Passover menu includes a flourless chocolate cake, matzo almond brittle, chocolate chip meringe cookies, and more. Non-Kosher bakery.

West Orange Bake Shop (West Orange)
Their Passover items are baked with potato starch at this Kosher bakery, so they're perfect for the holiday. It's the traditional Passover gems here: black and white cookies, Rugelach, macaroons, and more, as well as sweets from Chantilly bakery, which they bring in and are popular with patrons. They also sell Shabbos candles, candy trays, table covers, and more.
