Free Museum Admissions in Hartford County

We’re very lucky to have a huge variety of museums in the Hartford County area from science to art to hands on children’s museums and more. What makes us even luckier is that many of them offer free admission! So take a look at this list and make plans to check one out soon. The Museum of Connecticut History in Hartford offers free museum admission for all ages and is open to the public Monday-Friday 9-4 pm and Saturdays 9-2 pm.

The New Britain Museum of American Art offers free admission on Saturdays to the public from 10-noon. If you go before February 9 you can check out their Maurice Sendek "Where the Wild Things Are" exhibit. On Saturdays mornings they also run 2 different Family Art programs for children to participate in for a small fee.

The Connecticut Historical Society is free to members and children 5 and under. They also have free admission to the museum galleries the first Saturday of every month.

New Britain Youth Museum right in the city center of New Britain has free admission to all of its exhibits. They’re open Tuesdays from 10-5 pm, Wednesday-Friday noon-5 pm, and Saturdays 10-4 pm, closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Check with your local library they often offer free passes to many of the area museums such as the Children’s Museum in West Hartford, Imagine Nation in Bristol and many more.

Admission to the Nancy Conklin Exhibit gallery, Spear Community Arts Gallery and Children’s Learning Loft all part of the Stanley Whitman Museum in Hartford is free. The hours are Wednesday-Friday 9-4 pm and weekends noon-4 pm.
