Best January Kids Shows in New Jersey

January is known for being the slowest, coldest month. But that doesn’t mean it still can’t be chock-full of family fun! Hopefully, you’ve finally decompressed from holiday festivities and can make time to catch some live shows in Jersey this month. Here’s a round-up of family-friendly shows for kids and if the theat-uh is not your thing, check out our Winter Fun Guide or January GO List for other fun 'n' frosty options.

Disney On Ice Presents 100 Years of Magic (Newark, NJ)
I love anything Disney, and am excited for this live action ice show! Kids will see 60 of Disney’s unforgettable characters from 18 classic stories come to life in Disney On Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic! Mickey Mouse, (My fave) Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio, and many Disney Princesses will be there to warm your kids hearts in the cold!  Start Date: January 15; End date, January 18th. The Willow Girl (Hackettstown, NJ)
On Sunday, January 12 at 2 p.m., The New Jersey Theatre Alliance (Centenary Stage Company of Warren County) presents The Willow Girl, a puppet show for older children about a Chinese girl with special powers who immigrates to the American frontier and finds herself facing discrimination in a swirl of other immigrants and cultures. The puppet show features a huge, gracefully animated Willow Tree and blends humor, mystery, drama and magical effects. It is beautifully enhanced with original and traditional fiddle music. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (West Windsor, NJ)
Manhattan-based Theatreworks USA presents Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day based on the beloved book by Judith Viorst.  The show will be presented at Mercer Community College’s Kelsey Theatre—at 2 and 4 p.m.--in West Windsor on Saturday, January 11.  In the story, Alexander’s misfortunes—from getting gum in his hair to tripping on a skateboard to learning that a schoolmate doesn’t want to be his friend anymore—are captured in this hilarious musical adaptation. . The younger set will embrace the lesson Alexander learns—that everyone has a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day sometimes…and survives! For ticket info and pricing, click here.

The Gizmo Guys (Hackettstown, NJ)
A comedy act with quick-witted verbal repartee and world class juggling skills. Touring worldwide since 1987, the Gizmo Guys have appeared before well over a million people in more than 2500 live performances and for millions more on television. And now you can see them in Warren County at the Centenary Stage Company on February 2nd at 2 p.m. Click here for more info.

Fancy Nancy: The Musical (Morristown, NJ)
Super Sleuth Fancy Nancy—star of her own book series—is live on stage in this adorable musical. From her tiara to her sparkly shoes, Nancy’s out to teach her family a thing or two about being fancy. Ages 4-12. Catch the show on Sunday, January 12th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Morristown at the Mayo Performing Arts Center.

Dinosaur Train Live! Buddy's Big Adventure (Morristown, NJ)
Also at the Mayo Performing Arts Center is the show Dinosaur Train, based on the PBS Kids Series.  Dinosaur Train goes live at Mayo on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 1:30 pm and 4:30 p.m. From giant King to teeny Tiny, the Dinosaur Train gang will be brought to life in an exciting, original, musical story created just for the stage—and the audience is always a part of the action.
