Me

The most interesting and life-changing parenting book I've read.

The Big Kid

201103032116.jpg

My daughter loved this so much, we read it aloud to the whole family. Then moved on to the next one. (grade 3 and up)

The LIttle Kid

Bad Kitty is hilarious as he works his way through an alphabet of naughtiness.

Essex County Neighborhood Guide

It could be all about the parks, since Essex County was the first county in the United States to have its own parks department.  The famous cherry blossoms of Branch Brook Park, The Children’s Garden in Verona Park and the many family-friendly-isms of Essex County Environmental Center would be enough to make one a happy Essex resident. Add in Imagine That! museum, Turtleback Zoo, Newark Museum’s Junior Museum, SOPAC and NJPAC, and you’ve got so many options, it almost makes you want to have more kids. Almost.

Things to do with kids: Playdates and Parties for NJ Kids: The Itsy Bitsy Tea Party in Montclair

If your little girl or boy likes to pretend play and feast on sweet treats, then the Itsy Bitsy Tea Party in Montclair is for you. Walk in to a lovely, sunny shop and your child can dress up in a colorful gown (or a fireman’s suit if they prefer), don jewelry and a tiara, and slip on a pair of heels or fancy slippers. “Tea” and beautifully decorated cupcakes and cookies are served, while moms relax and let the friendly staff clean up. A perfect experience!

Best Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah Planning Advice from NJ Experts

Things to do with kids: Best Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah Planning Advice from NJ Experts

When a Jewish teenager turns 12 or 13, they’ll sometimes have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. (‘Bar’ for a Jewish boy; ‘Bat’ for a Jewish girl). A Bar or Bat Mitzvah marks the transition from child to one who makes more mature, adult-like decisions.  Thus, in Jewish tradition, a boy or girl who becomes a Bar/Bat Mitzvah is now morally and ethically responsible for his or her decisions and actions. Sometimes, a celebratory party will follow the ceremony and that party is also called a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. The religious ceremony is usually held at a temple, and the party is usually held at the temple’s event space or another location—of course, every family celebrates differently. Five top-notch New Jersey event planners and party experts weigh in on new trends in Bar/Bat Mitzvahs…and ways to keep the whole family stress-free during this exciting time.

Things to do with kids: Hosting a Fun Birthday Party at Home

Well, Mommy Poppins has given you the skinny on birthday parties from ice cream bashes to museum shindigs and now we're chatting about at-home fun, beginning with yesterday's party vendors that come to you. 5 Fun Winter Birthday Party Ideas for Kids in New Jersey

Things to do with kids: 5 Fun Winter Birthday Party Ideas for Kids in New Jersey

Sometimes it's hard to plan parties for our winter babies. I actually had a party in December at my house (GASP!). It was successful but what was I thinking having sugar-crazed 7-year olds in my home the week before Christmas?! It's February and I'm still finding candy canes in the couch and glitter in places no one wants to find glitter. Needless to say, I'm already thinking about how to avoid that experience next year, so here are 5 awesome, off-the-beaten-path winter birthday venues.
