The truth is, I love a rainy day. It's stressful to have to think of something to do every single sunny day, and I'm running out of chairs to hang bathing suits on. Of course, after a few hours inside listening to the storms and wondering if my car has floated into the Hudson, it's nice to get out and take advantage of some of the great indoor adventures that NJ has to offer. Here's a bunch of our favorites, with a few at-home ideas thrown in.
Can’t wait for vacation? Kids bored with the same park every day? Take a mini-trip without even leaving the state! Hop in the car and head to one of these great NJ day trip destinations. Pick fresh fruit and let the kids pet some barnyard animals; check out a national monument; visit NJ's own Victorian seaside town; head to a giant lake water park; or visit the beach, boardwalk and aquarium all in one day. Enjoy our list of fun day trips for this summer! Looking for more summer fun? Check out our Ultimate Summer Play List!
Children are born scientists. They're always experimenting with something, whether they're throwing a plate of spaghetti on the wall, blowing bubbles in the bath water or stacking blocks into an intricate tower only to destroy it in one big swipe. As they get older, you may decide to enroll them in one of NYC's enriching science program to continue their studies. But you can actually do some pretty mind-blowing science experiments at home using stuff you probably have lying around the house.
Don't worry if you never made it past biology: These 50 science activities are super-easy and a lot of fun to boot, as kids are exposed to a wide variety of scientific concepts. It's a great way to spend quality time together as a family and who knows, mom and dad may end up learning a new thing or two, too.

During the summer months, it’s great to spend time out in the sun. But what about when the weather doesn't cooperate? Rain - or even extreme heat - can really put a damper on plans, and those are the days when an indoor bounce place is a mom and dad’s dream come true. Kids can have a ball jumping and running around, and parents don’t have to worry about their children being outside in the elements. For New Jersey residents, Bounce! Trampoline Sports in Village Cottage, NY, is a short car ride away and a perfect day trip when the kids need to be kept occupied (because keeping them in the house will drive both parents and kids crazy!).
