Last fall, we asked our readers to take a short survey and share their thoughts about how to improve our Summer Camp Guide. Overwhelmingly, we heard that you wanted a combination of our editorial recommendations, plus the ability to search listings and find recommendations from other parents.
I always enjoyed live theatrical performances as a child and am so grateful my parents took the time to take me to various productions—from the circus to community theater. Now, as an adult and a mom, I’m excited to share the power of performance with my daughter—seeing family-friendly shows is a great way for loved ones to bond over the arts. Here’s a list of March 2014 live shows the family can appreciate and enjoy these next few weeks.
My family and I recently spent a great afternoon at the Silverball Museum Arcade.Located on the Boardwalk in Asbury Park, New Jersey, it is home to 200 pinball machines and arcade games. No problem if you or your kid becomes addicted to the flashing lights and the sound of the ricocheting metal ball, because unlimited play is included with your admission. No quarters are needed at this hands-on museum. You can try as many of the machines as you like, as many times as you like.
It's that time of the winter where we’re all going a little stir crazy! If your house is anything like mine, you’ve probably exhausted almost every indoor activity and creative motivation come late February – we’ve done play dough, painting, indoor bowling and baked countless batches of cookies. It’s amazing how kids have seemingly endless energy! So instead of spending another afternoon cooped up, head out to one of these awesome indoor play spaces in Central Jersey.
We spent the first afternoon of February vacation doing the same thing many families are doing this week: Watching The LEGO Movie. Although I love LEGO, my expectations for the movie were fairly low. I mean, we’re paying to see a really long toy commercial, right? So I was surprised that we were entertained, amused, and even awed by the film. We chose The LEGO Movie over seeing Frozen in the theater, and I don’t have any regrets. However, I think we were the right audience for The LEGO Movie, and not everyone fits into that category. In fact, as we walked out of the theater, we heard one mom say, “That was the longest hour and 40 minutes of my life.” Read on for all you need to know to determine which category your family fits into.
If you're like many SoCal moms, when you hear "Anaheim" (assuming you don't live there) you immediately think "Angels," or "Ducks," or "Disneyland." But, as locals will attest, there's much more to do in Anaheim than seeking out Mickey and Minnie or attending a major league sporting event. And so, in keeping with our series of lists of 25 (make sure to read our lists of things to do in Culver City, Redondo Beach, Marina Del Rey, Burbank, Pasadena and Hollywood as well), we bring you 25 Things To Do With Kids in Anaheim.
With all of this snow and more on its way, my kids are climbing the walls…literally. We need to get out of the house and get moving. Ice skating is an option, or skiing, but what if we want to move and still stay indoors? Rock climbing is the perfect mix of family-friendly fun, indoor temperatures, team building and exercise. Check out these Northern New Jersey facilities for open climb, beginners classes and more!
