Don’t have a green thumb? Critters spoiling you attempts at a garden again this year? Join a CSA farm. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a partnership between a local farmer and the people who consume his/her fresh, often organic, produce. Members purchase a "share" of the farm's anticipated harvest. This partnership becomes a win/win situation to the CSA members by giving them the best quality, freshest, widest variety of locally grown produce while ensuring the survival of the farms by guaranteeing the farmer a fair return on his/her efforts. Members pay at the beginning of the season and the farmer delivers a weekly assortment of vegetables, herbs and sometimes fruit as they become available. Each of the farms runs a little differently, so check the websites and choose the program that best suits your family’s needs. And enjoy!

Don your sombrero, dust off the marimba, and head out for some Cinco de Mayo family fun! There’s music to dance to (at a library, if you can believe it), food and drink to consume (everywhere), Monarch butterfly celebrations, parades, and a 5K to run (to negate the cheese calories). With all this going on, your kids will surely siesta well, and you can mix up that margarita you so richly deserve.

Reduce, reuse recycle…. a mantra that all of our NJ kids know. But there is more to saving and protecting the Earth than the three R’s. Take your kids out to celebrate Earth Day 2013 and learn how people can work together to make our Earth a healthier place in which all its creatures can live. Earth Day is officially April 22, but there are many celebrations occurring on different dates, so check online or call ahead before you head out.
 

If you'd like your kids to know that not all small yellow chicks are marshmallow Peeps, try visiting a farm with real live breathing baby animals. Your children can crack corn, collect eggs, see baby pigs, goats and sheep, and even see how cheese and bread are made. It's one day until spring--huh?? The east coast has endured some crazy weather in recent weeks, so we wise and hardy NJ moms know there is no guarantee that warm weather will be here anytime soon. Luckily, New Jersey has plenty of fun and exciting indoor play spaces to take the kids. Pack a bag, put on your snow boots, and head out to try out some of these awesome places in Mercer and Somerset counties.
