Before you know it, the end of the school year will arrive and the panic will set in: “What the heck am I going to do with these small people I call 'my children' for the summer?" We’ve got you covered with the best of New Jersey-area summer camps, some with a bonus winter camp option! These camps take fun seriously—so much so that they plan the whole year round for the 8 weeks of summer when their sites are transformed into oases of good times, team spirit, water fun, crafts, day trips, and all things summer. Many camps listed have had entire generations of families pass through, and although some camps we mention are large, they offer great counselor to camper ratios, with additional support from adults supervising younger staff. Let’s face it, soon you’re going to be breaking out the sunscreen, so plan now. Then you and your family can enjoy a welcome break from the grueling school year—you deserve it! “We always want to go, but we always miss it!” Everyone says this about the Quik Chek Balloon Festival. This year, make sure you don’t miss out on one of New Jersey’s most highly anticipated family events of the summer. It has everything: beautiful hot air balloon ascensions, top notch performers, rides, freebies, great food, and a central New Jersey location. Balloon, balloons, everywhere!
"Mom, I'm bored!" is a phrase that strikes dread into the hearts of moms during the summer. Trying to think of some great day trips to fill the hours? Look no further than PEEC: Pocono Environmental Education Center. PEEC is only a 90 minute drive from NYC or most New Jersey counties. It is located within the 77,000 acres of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area along the Delaware River and offers hands-on activities for all ages.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is not only a huge buzzword in education, but also with parents hoping to raise the next Steve Jobs. The term STEM has been around since 2003, but lately there's been a greater focus on education integration at an early age. Makerspaces are locations that foster the notions of STEM, where children and adults can build things, take risks, celebrate successes and failures, collaborate and most of all, have fun!
What happens when Spring Break is not so much a spring-y warm break? Indoor family fun! This New Jersey family of four decided to venture right over the border to party in the Palisades. Read on after the jump about how we turned a chilly Spring Break day into an adventure in the Palisades region of New York that included an indoor trampoline romp, a 5 story ropes course, a ferris wheel and a kid-friendly dinner. I would also recommend this day trip for a rainy day!
